AB de Villiers will undergo surgery on his fractured left hand after a thorough assessment from Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) team of hand specialists on Thursday. His surgery will take place on Friday, 30 September 2011 in Johannesburg, and will look to stabilise the fractured area.
“The hand specialist found that AB (de Villiers) fractured the hand bone (metacarpal) of his middle finger,” commented Proteas Team Manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee. “He advised that immediate surgery by done to fixate the fracture and to allow the rehabilitation process to begin as soon as possible.”
The Proteas’ Castle Lager ODI and T20 captain is expected to be unavailable for four to six weeks.
