WEST INDIES all-rounder Dwayne Bravo hit 46 off 25 balls to carry the defending champion Chennai Super Kings to a four-wicket victory over the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras in their Nokia Champions League T20 match at Chennai on Wednesday.
The Cobras looked to be well in charge of the match until Bravo took 17 runs off the 19th over of the innings bowled by Dale Steyn. It left the Super Kings needing 6 runs off the last over and they got home with two balls to spare.
The Cobras were probably left to rue the fact that they only scored 21 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their last four overs. The man who did the damage was Albie Morkel who dismissed both JP Duminy and Owais Shah in the space of two deliveries in the 17th over. It left the Cobras with two new batsmen at the crease and they were never able to recover.
Duminy and Shah had shared a partnership of 57 for the fourth wicket which turned out to be the highest of the match.
Duminy went on to complete a fine individual performance when he took 4/20 in his four overs including 10 dot balls. His performance swung the match in the Cobras’ favour until Bravo came with his late onslaught.
In spite of this defeat the Cobras remain second on the log behind the Mumbai Indians. The Super Kings are in third place on net run rate difference but have put themselves right back in the race following their opening match defeat against Mumbai.
The Cobras’ next match is against the Mumbai Indians on Friday.
