Andy Murray’s stated aim of taking the world No 3 position from Roger Federer before the season’s end remains on track after he cruised to victory in the final of the Thailand Open.
Monday morning’s rankings will show Murray 515 points ahead of the great Swiss for the season after the 24-year-old Scot took only 48 minutes to defeat American Donald Young 6-2, 6-0 in Bangkok.
Murray will this week play in the Japan Open in Tokyo, the second of three events on the Far East swing of the tour that Federer is sitting out to get over niggling injuries before coming back for the close of the season in Europe.
