ANGELS' latest defeat against Dartford had all the ingredients of what has been right and wrong with Tommy Warrilow's side so far this season in the Conference South.
Darford, surely one of the challengers for promotion, were more than matched on the pitch for the majority of the 90 minutes, perhaps if certain decisions had gone Angels' way, the result could have been different.
However, like so many times this season, Angels' players simply made the wrong decisions in crucial areas, especially in defence – the opener on Saturday was a prime example of this carelessness.
It's a harsh lesson, but the question is – are the players learning quickly enough?
"The first goal really killed me," Warrilow said. "I told Ben five minutes before, don't play in those kind of areas as he had been caught. I couldn't believe it, we are chasing the game so early and it's another poor goal we have given away.
"We have matched them in the first half and started very well in the second – we had a penalty claim, which is another massive decision that hasn't gone for us and then we conceded a second.
"When Frannie's shot hit Young in the face, you just felt it wasn't going to be our day. We have played well again, but stupid little things are hurting us. We are being punished at the moment."
With Lewis Taylor and Lee Browning missing through injury, Warrilow went for a change in formation, employing a 5-3-2 set-up. This meant Ben Andrews came in alongside Sonny Miles and Ben Judge as the third centre-back, while Robbie Kember came in for Browning.
Angels looked comfortable in the opening 10 minutes, but then pressed the self-destruct button – not for the first time this season.
Scott Kinch had two men in his vicinity 10 yards outside of Angels' area, yet Andrews decided to play the ball to him – big mistake.
Charlie Sheringham robbed the midfielder of the ball, played in Elliott Bradbrook, who had the easy task of rolling under Lee Worgan – Warrilow was livid with his central-defender and he had every right to be.
For the remainder of the half, both teams cancelled each other out and clear-cut chances were few and far between.
Angels had a flurry of chances as the first half came to a conclusion – Ade Olorunda was denied by Andrew Young and Anthony Storey's shot was tipped over by the Dartford keeper.
Dartford had the last chance of the half, Lee Noble crashing his 25 yard shot against the bar, after Angels inexplicably went to sleep at a corner.
The interval gave Warrilow time to rally his troops and they dominated the early part of the second half.
Frannie Collin did excellently to cut inside and fire a shot off, but Young managed to repel the effort with his face – the keeper should have done his lottery numbers with luck like that.
Dartford were nearly gifted a second when Jake Beecroft's blind pass gave the ball straight to Sheringham, who found Noble inside the area, but he put his shot into the side-netting. At the other end, Collin somehow hooked wide from just six yards out after the ball had fallen to him at a corner.
Sheringham turned provider for the second time in the 64th minute, hooking the ball on to substitute Danny Harris and he dispatched his shot past Worgan. Moments before, Angels had a penalty shout when Tom Bonner appeared to handle inside the area – it just wasn't their day.
The home side made it three when substitute James Rogers found Sheringham, who curled into the far corner after he managed to get himself a yard of space.
Substitute Chris Henry had a goal ruled out for offside moments after Dartford's third, but the winger did win a penalty in the 85th minute, after Jon Wallis brought him down.
Collin cooly converted for his 11th of the season and Henry was upended again inside the box by Wallis minutes later, but this time referee Neil Hair waved away the claims.
