Wenger: Gervinho can play anywhere upfront

Arsène Wenger praised two-goal hero Gervinho after Arsenal's win over FC Cologne yesterday.

The Ivorian striker, a recent signing from Lille, scored two predatory goals to win the pre-season friendly for the Gunners.

The 24-year-old showed good striking instincts, but Wenger says he has qualities to provide competition in all of the other attacking positions as well.

The boss said: "He has shown his qualities. He has quick movement behind [the defence], the timing of his movement is great and he is easy to find. We have seen what he can bring to the team and he contributes to the high pace we have in the team.

"He is a positive threat to everybody up front. He can play on the right, he can play on the left and he can play through the middle.

"He is a help for us to be more dangerous, more of a threat. He is an addition to the Arsenal squad of top quality.

"Players like Walcott or Arshavin can see that more as a help because they know in some games you need variety. Up front is the most demanding position where you need to be fresh."

Wenger added that his new signing seems to be adapting quickly to life at Arsenal.

He said: "He looks to me like he has adjusted very quickly. Let's hope it goes quickly for him.

"You never know, some players take six months and some players take two weeks."
