Its not always just about how good a player you are that matters. Accepted that Fabregas is a world class player. Also he is arguably the best at his position.. But how far has he taken Arsenal?? Arsenal with the quality they have, are a team who are expected to lift the Premier League trophy season after season. But 6 trophy less seasons speaks for itself. And that in spite of having top players like RVP, Theo Walcott and Nasiri around him.
On the other hand there is Modric who was the focal point and one of the main reasons alongside Gareth Bale for Spurs making the CL last season. When they were a team that at best could have hoped for a spot in the Europa League. The same can be said about Alexis Sanchez who has taken Udinese to the CL this season...
My point here is fitness plays a very important role when you are talking about how valuable a player is.
Barcelona are behind Fabregas because he was a part of their La Masia youth set up alongside Messi and Iniesta and they feel he would fit in well there.
Also I don't expect Barca to get into a huge crisis like Arsenal always do in case he get injured. They have sufficient back up in their squad. The only other clubs showing interest are money bags Real and Man City. This shows that most of the other major clubs don't think a move for Fabregas is viable at Arsenal's asking rate.
And then there are Sanchez and Modric behind for whose signature a big chunk are clubs are waiting in line. An this is because they know that these are guys who will be there for the team all over the year.
Arsenal's fortune would have been different had Fabregas not been that Injury prone
