AB de Villiers, captain of the Proteas’ Castle Lager ODI and T20 squads, fractured his left hand while practising with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in India on Wednesday morning.
He has been ruled out of the remainder of the Nokia Champions League T20 tournament and will be flying home immediately for medical treatment and diagnosis.
“AB’s injury will be assessed by Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) team of hand specialists as soon as he returns home,” commented Proteas’ team manager, Dr. Mohammed Moosajee. “This will give us an exact indication of the treatment and rehabilitation required and the length of time that he will be out of action.
“At this stage we can only make a call about his availability for the series against Australia once the specialists have assessed his injury.”
