Warriors suffer fist defeat


THE Chevrolet Warriors suffered their first setback at the Nokia Champions League T20 when they lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders by 22 runs on the Duckworth/Lewis method.



They nevertheless remain top of Group B and have their fate in their own hands depending on the outcome of their final group match against Somerset.



The Warriors got off to an excellent start after being sent into bat when Jon-Jon Smuts and Colin Ingram put on 80 for the second wicket in 10 overs. Smuts scored 46 off 43 balls with 6 fours while Ingram went on to a Man of the Match performance of 61 off 47 balls with 3 sixes and 3 fours.



Unfortunately the Warriors were unable to kick on from this start and finished with 155/4 in their 20 overs.



With rain very much in the air Kolkata made a rapid start to their innings and were helped by some below par fielding from the Warriors.



Jacques Kallis, who had earlier bowled well to shut down the Warriors innings in the death overs, scored 31 off 19 balls and Gautam Ghambir raced to 33 off 23 balls.



When the rain came down, Kolkata were well ahead of the required rate.
